In this picture of Wai`anae Valley are 3 rectangles.  My house is somewhere in "a", the Danny's car is somewhere in "B" and "C" which is the summit of Pu`u  Koleali`ili is where my father's ashes were scattered.  It's a special place for me as is the whole valley.

We reached the summit of Hobb's Ridge at about 1 p.m.  There we sat down for a good rest and our well earned lunch.  During lunch we discussed some options as what to do next.  Going down a very steep slope is always scary.  Much worse than going up because now you ;can see how far you could fall.  While going up all you can see is the slope in front of you.  We had three options:

1-Return the way we came.

2-Turn left and hike across the Wai`anae Summit going north climbing to the top of Mt. Ka`ala and then going down the Ka`ala Trail.

3-Turn right and follow the summit to Pu`u Kalena and keep going all the way to Kolekole Pass.  If we did this Dan's wife would have to drive over to pick us up.

In the end we decided that we did not have enough water to do either 2 or 3.  So down Hobb's we would go.  We still had 100' of rope that we would cut as needed and leave behind, in the places were we used Michaels "strap", as we worked our way down.  Here is the view from the top.
