After crossing under the highway we picked up a trail that Dayle remembered as a shortcut to the Bowman Trail. We also walked for a while on an old road (see map) till it turned back toward the highway and we turned mauka. After a little wandering we came upon a nice trail going up a low ridge marked with long white ribbons. In a clearing we found the "outhouse" looking rain gauge.
Scott found a short piece of broken plank which be balanced on some tree stumps to take the next picture. Using the timer on my camera I was able to rest the camera on the plank and get a picture of all of the days hikers in one shot.
