Kumaipo to Makaha Towers

Wednesday 28 April 2010

We took a break from trail clearing/creation to just hike and have a good time.  That's not to say we don't have a good time clearing trails.

Today we would begin in Wai`anae Valley and using a section of the ancient Hawaiian "Kumaipo" trail climb to the crest of Kamaileunu ridge which seperates Wai`anae from Makaha.  We would then hike a short distance on the crest of the ridge and then drop into Makaha valley on a trail that Gene opened a few years ago.

In Makaha we would visit Banana Falls, which was dry today, and then down to Twin Falls which were flowing nicely.

We would end the hike at the Makaha Towers where "drivers" would catch a ride back to Wai`anae to pick up their cars.
