This is an indigenous (came to the islands w/o the help of man and are found in other parts of the world) sedge scientifically known as Cyperus polystachyos. Thanks Dave for the help.

The Chinese Orchid is exotic (introduced by man after the Hawaiians arrived) and is know scientifically as Phaius Tankervilleae. It grows right in the soil.
