From the end of the paved road we headed into the bush.  Here I'm placing new trail markers.  Two hikes use the same ground for about 4 tenths of a mile.  The traditional Wai`anae Kai Loop follows the white markers to the low back on the ridge between Wai`anae and Makaha, then goes up to Three Poles and then back down to the paved road.  Tiki Ridge is an advanced version of the loop adding the much more difficult climb up three rock faces to the Tiki Rocks and down to the place where the Wai`anae Kai Loop reached the ridge between Wai`anae and Makaha.  From there it follows the same path as the W. K. Loop.  Here you can see a sample of both trail markers.

We head up Kumaipo Stream toward the point the two trail separate.  Dan and his wife Mary will take the traditional path which should be pretty clear.  The rest of us would go up and clear the Tiki Trail which we have not been on in over 7 months.

This is the flower of a "Canna Lily" growing wild along the stream.
