About 3 miles in the trail meets Waimano Stream and crosses it just up from an old dam.  The dam use to divert water into the ditch system.  Beyond the dam the trail switch backs up to the crest of the next ridge.  It is a long climb to the crest, perhaps 1 1/2 miles with but w/only an elevation gain of approx 500 feet.  Along this section we begin to see more and more native plants along the trail as well as many large clumps of King Palms which are native to Australia.  Anyone have a name for this native?  The leaf pattern is alternate.  We found one ripe red fruit.
