Behind the petroglyph rock was another huge rock w/ three depressions carved into it. It is believed that these were once used to gather salt from the sea. The Hawaiians would fill them w/salt water and wait for the water to evaporate leaving behind the salt.
Next we visited what is described as a well. Now it looks like a hole in the ground w/grass growing in it. But...water does gather in it and after a heavy rain there is water that could be used for drinking. Today we'd boil it first.
