This trail is called the Ramble Trail because once reaching the 1800’ elevation it “rambles” in and out of many small valleys as it crosses Wai`anae Valley. Down on the floor of the first valley can be found a native tree called Papala Kepau.

The ancient Hawaiian used the sticky seed pods to catch birds from which they plucked a few feathers to make their royal capes. Here is a close up of the seed pods.
Some DUMB pig hunters caught a small pig about a week ago and hung the carcass on a tree right along the trail. Talk about stink and flies.
