We began our return to the "down" trail and came across Dick and Brenda. She was mending a cut Dick had inflicted on himself w/his machete. It seems it bounced off a branch and cut his leg. The cut was bad enough to need medical treatment, but Dick was able to walk out. After seeing him on two hikes in March he seems to be totaly recovered.
On the way down the "down" trail into what the USGS map calls Kaaikukai Gulch. I looked up that name in Place names of Hawai`i and could not find it. Instead there is one called Kaai`kukui which is also in Honouliuli. Perhaps the FED's made a mistake.
Anyway after passing the broken down shack we came upon some snares for wild pigs. The pigs do a lot of dammage to the environment with their rooting. One snare had a pig in it.
