We climbed up to 2800' and at a nice open spot I took this panorama of Lualualei Valley and part of Wai`anae.

One of the reasons I have never hiked from Kolekole to Kalena in the past is that I don't like walking on narrow dikes.  The pictures in Stuart Ball's book kept me away.  But today I had no choice.  I had to cross the two dike sections to get down to Kolekole Pass.  When we got to this point Dan told me that was one of the dikes.  I almost turned around, but I figured out that the dike in this picture COULD NOT be the one we had to cross.  And it was not.  They were just teasing me.

This is the first of the two dikes.  Look at Dan, crossing it like it was nothing.

In order to get down to the dike, one had to descend this rock face using a cable.  Here comes Michael.
