This palm like the other two I own is quite drought tolorent. It is endemic to dry hillsides on the island of Hispaniola. It's trunk can reach heights of 70 feet but Riffle and Craft say it usually only gets half as high under cultivation. The diameter of the trunk can get up to 1 foot, but like P. sargentii it has a swollen trunk about 1/2 way up.
I'm not sure where I bought the palm, or was it a seed? I can't tell you when it went in the ground either. But here is a picture taken in 2005.
