Pritchardia thurstonii - Thurston Palm

This palm is endemic to the island of Fiji and found along it's coasts.  This palm's trunk can reach heights of 30 feet with a diameter of 8 inches  One can use the fact that it's inflorescences are quite long, up to 10 feet and arch up and out of the leaf crown.

It needs full sun, but I planted it in a very shady spot in November of 2001.  In the picture it looks to be quite sunny, but since then quite a lot of shade came along.

I took the next picture in July of 2005 and it show nice growth.
