I pulled out all the weeds and then laid out the cement block to what I thought the pond might look like.

After pricing liners and getting liner sizes I reduced the size of the pond.  If it was a perfect rectangle it would be 10' x 20'.  The back wall (straight) is 10' long and two block (16") high.  Because there was still a little slope to the area and because we wanted one end to be deeper the wall in the foreground is 3 blocks (24") high.  There were places between where I used some 4" high blocks (the sides).

Looking from the deck by the house you get another view.  Notice the height of the palms.  The pump and filter would go behind the straight wall on the right.    Once the pond walls were finished, I dumped sand inside and used it to determine the depth I wanted as well as to protect the liner from any rocks that may have been in the soil.  I used a liner that we bought from a local pond store.  I believe it has a 25 year warranty.
