This is so funny, as I work my way down the list of palms growing here in DRY Wai`anae, I keep coming up w/rainforest palms. This one is native to Laos, Vietnam and southern China. Yup, you guessed it, it is found growing along rivers which flood from time to time. Yea-right and it lives in Wai`anae :-)
Not sure when these went in the ground but I'd guess around 1997 after I built the stairs and terraced the hillside behind the house. Does this river palm look happy here in 2000?
How about 7 years later in February of 2008?
