Livistona rotundifola - Footstool Palm


This palm is native to many of the islands in South East Asia where it grows in, you guessed it, rain forests.   The trunk can reach heights of 80 feet w/a diameter of about 1 foot.  Young palms have a very round leaf thus it's name.

Again we have a rainforest palm happy and growing in dry Wai`anae.  It was purchased in 1997 at a Foster Botanical Garden Plant Sale in a six inch pot.  It went into the ground in 2000.  The tag on the picture is wrong.

By 2001 it was as tall as me, 6', and growing.....

And here again in February of 2008 still bigger.  Sorry about it being kind of lost in the weeds.
