Coccothrinax crinita

This single trunked palm is endemic to Cuba meaning it is not found naturally anywhere else in the world.  It is found in grasslands and hills.

It is sometimes refered to as the "Old Man Palm" because of the heavy fiber coating of the trunk.  The trunk may reach as high as 25 feet and a diameter of 10 inches.

I bought mine from a friend in a gallon pot at least 10 years ago.  It went into the ground in 1998 and has really grown since then.  I can't wait for it to produce some seeds.  I'm sure you will enjoy the pictures below.  The tall cactus sticking up behind it in the second photo blew over about 2 years ago.  I must take a new picture soon.
