This palm is endemic to rain forests in New Caledonia but is doing fine here in my desert in full sun. Perhaps some shade would give it more green in its fronds. It's trunk may reach 40 feet in height with a 10 inch diameter. I doubt if it will do that well here in Wai`anae.
I'm not sure when I put it in the ground by the pool. I kept it in a pot against the north west side of the house for a year beginning in the winter. As the sun rose higher in the sky it slowly got more and more sun. Then in the summer I placed it in the ground. I believe it was 2004.
Here are two pictures. The first from 2005 and the second from a year ago in January of 2007.
