Securing Kahtoola Cleats

Many of us that bought the Kahtoola Ice Cleats found that with time the steel links that secure the chains to the rubber tear through the rubber.  I came up w/a method of stopping this.  I use a long shoe lace or a piece of 1/8th nylon rope and kriss cross it across my boots.  This takes the downward pull off the rubber.  Best bet is a length of 90 inches for full boots.  No shoe laces come that long so I used the nylon rope.  Below is a picture to show how I did it using a shoe lace but it left little to tie the bow.
