This rock shaped like this is probably a mochi pounding rock used by the Japanese workers building the tunnels.

When you blast tunnels you have a lot of rock to get rid of.  Small carts on "rail road rails" are used to remove the rubble.  Here is a small section fo rail we found up stream of the trail.  I dragged it down to the trail so hikers could see it.
