It's been over a year since I last hiked this trail and so I joined the Trail Clearing crew of the Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club today.
We began arriving at the top of Komo Mai Drive above Pearl City around 7:45 a.m. Thomas was there even earlier and took off right away with his weed whacker and headed for the "return" section of the trail to begin his clearing. I took off about 8 with Peter, but on the way down to Manana Stream he slowed down to talk w/John. I kept going on my own and didn't see another person until Peter again caught up w/me somewhere on Iliahi Ridge.
Not sure what happened to the above paragraph to center it....but here is a map for this 6.5 mile adventure.
I always stop and take this picture each time I do this hike. It's on the way down to Manana Stream. Manana Stream is know to local pig hunters as "grabber gulch" because of the many Cat's Claw trees that will "grab" your skin or clothing with it's nasty thorns.
Going up the other side to Iliahi Ridge I came across this rock w/these ferns and moss growing on it.
