Danny always seems to be smiling about something.  He is standing beside a clump of Pinanga coronata palms.  They are sometimes called "Ivory Cane Palms" and are native to the rain forests of Indonesia.  These are now growing all along the banks of the stream.  They were not there say 30 years ago.  I believe these were transported by birds from the Ho`omaluhia Botanical Gardens on the other side of the mountains.
