We reached Jury's Tree (1400') in good time about 50 minutes which included a stop at Lookout Point for me to change into my hiking boots leaving my "road" shoes hidden in some tall grass. When we reached Jury's Tree and the Ramble Trail we split into two groups. Dan and Michael would go to check out the water tunnels while Jean and I would head directly to the Pua`a Nui Trail head and begin to climb the ridge.

Michael wanted to see the tunnel locations, but because our plan for the day was not to explore the tunnels he just checked out the location. He and Dan soon caught up with Jean and I. It was then up, up, the steep trail till we got to the "snack" spot (2000') were we took our first real break. We arrived around 10:00 a.m. and stayed there about 10 minutes. I arrived a few minutes before the other three as my steel cleats allow me to take a shorter route over loose soil.

Jean was wondering if she really wanted to go "up there".
