This adventure began back on June 10th, 2007 when Dan and I began our search for this passage to the summit. We wound up calling the ridge that leads there Pua`a Nui, which in Hawaiian means Big Pig. We are calling it that because of the piles of pig "s__t" we found on the ridge. I mean there was so much and it was BIG, I mean BIG. The piles were like 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Well nuff said about that. Here are links to the early adventurers on Pua`a Nui Ridge:

We began our adventure w/two additional hikers, Michael M. and Jean T. Michael it turns out would be the main leader once we got to the upper elevations. As usual we began the hike at the forestry gate (600') at the end of Wai`anae Valley Road. There were a bunch of hunters ahead of us when we arrived around 8:15 a.m. and began the hike about 5 minutes later.

Here is Jean looking tough and ready to conquer the mountain.

Our destination was hidden in the clouds. We all were hoping that it would not rain hard and force us to turn around.
