As we walked up stream the first thing I noticed was that there were palm trees EVERYWHERE. This is unusual in our valleys. The valley floors are usually covered with a variety of trees, not palms. After some checking with people who know palms better than I do this was identified as Pinanga coronata. Most likely seeds were brought by birds from Ho`omaluhia Gardens on the other side of the Ko`olau Mts. It is a beautiful clumping palm and I brought some seedlings home.
