After returning to the parking area in less than an hour, Landis suggested we walk down to look at King Kamehameha the III's summer palace. Its about a 5 minute walk down the Old Pali Road and a turn to the left just before the Board of Water Supply facility on the right. The summer place was built on a terraced track of land. Here is part of the wall creating the terrace.

As you climb the steps to the terrace this is your first view of the palace. Oh, did I forget to say it's in pretty bad shape? The State is clearing the area and doing some work to stabilize the walls so they don't get any worse than they are now.
